As 2020 approached, social media platforms faced growing backlash amid a rising desire for real connection. Cancel culture and calls for authenticity put pressure on creators, sparking conversations about embracing honesty over polish. At the same time, awareness of a loneliness epidemic revealed our deep need for genuine human interaction in a digital age.

When it came time to define the theme for my high school yearbook, I saw an opportunity to give form to the cultural shift, creating something that embraced honesty, imperfection, and individuality. The goal became: redefine this yearbook not as a highlight reel, but as a document of realness; capturing the raw, expressive, and emotional state of students navigating self-discovery while stepping into a new decade. What could we define together as we close on the 2010s?

Breaking away from tradition, both visually and conceptually, the Unfiltered Yearbook abandons Flowery Branch High School’s standard red-and-black branding in favor of color rising from a blank slate. Layers of color represent our own lived experiences, accumulating, evolving, and shaping our present-day selves. It’s a celebration of what lies within – of what it means to be real.

DELIGHTFUL DETAILS.
In this edition, details typically featured prominently on the cover were instead printed in UV ink – subtle and nearly invisible until they catch the light – to preserve the purity and impact of the all-white design.
